Service Alert: DC Circulator to Modify Service on the National Mall, Georgetown to Union Station, and Dupont Circle to Rosslyn Routes for the DC Bike Ride 2023

DC Circulator to Modify Service for DC Bike Ride on Saturday, September 9, 2023

The DC Bike Ride will lead to road closures affecting critical areas of the following routes: the National Mall, Georgetown – Union Station, and Dupont Circle – Rosslyn. To accommodate the event, see the following service impacts that will go into effect at the start of service from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023.

The DC Circulator service on the Dupont Circle– Rosslyn and the National Mall route will be suspended from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. or until the streets reopen for regular traffic.

The Union Station – Georgetown route will begin service with the buses detouring; the buses will continue around Washington Circle NW to Pennsylvania Ave NW and then continue service on M St NW to Wisconsin Ave NW. The following bus stops below will not be served.

K St & 24^th NW
Lower K St. & 30^th NW
Lower K St. & Wisconsin Ave NW
Wisconsin Ave & M St NW

All routes will resume regular service once the activities conclude and the streets reopen.

DC Circulator to Detour National Mall Route Service for the Susan B Komen DMV Tri-State More Than Pink Walk on Sunday, September 10, 2023

The Susan B Komen DMV Tri-State Walk will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. The bus service will detour to 4^th Street NW, starting service west of stop # 2 at Madison Drive and 4^th Street NW.

The detour will start at 7:00 a.m. and will continue until 12:30 p.m. or when traffic returns to normal.

1: E Street & Columbus Circle NE
15: 3^rd Street near Madison Drive NW

DC Circulator will Modify Service on the National Mall Route for the 2023 Washington Chinese Culture Festival on Saturday, September 2, 2023

The 2023 Washington Chinese Festival will affect the DC Circulator service on the National Mall route from service opening at 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. or when traffic returns to normal.

National Mall Detour Route:

DC Circulator buses will start detour service at 9:00 a.m. at bus stop # 3, Madison Drive, and 4^th St NW, omitting bus stops # 1 & 2, and continuing regular service from bus stop # 3. Bus service will detour again after serving bus stop # 14 Jefferson Drive and 7^th St SW and connecting back to bus stop # 3 Madison Drive and 7^th St NW.

Stop # 1 / E St and Columbus Circle NW
Stop # 2 / Madison Drive and 4^th St NW
Stop # 15 / 3^rd St near Madison Drive SW

DC Circulator to Modify Service for the 60^th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington on August 26, 2023

The 60^th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington will impact key segments of the service route throughout the National Mall.

Therefore, the National Mall route will start service in detour with buses running the Museum Loop. This loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial:

15^th SW / Jefferson Dr.
15^th SW near Maine Ave.
Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave.
West Basin Dr. SW
Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
Constitution Ave. NW / 21^st
Constitution Ave. NW / 18^th
15^th NW / Madison Dr.

The National Mall route will resume normal service on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

DC Circulator will Modify Service on the NM, CHUS, EMLP, and DPRS Routes Tuesday, July 4, 2023

National Mall – Service Suspended

Due to the various road closures on the National Mall for July 4^th, 2023, service on the National Mall will be suspended all day. Regular service will resume at all bus stops on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

Eastern Market – L’Enfant Plaza and Congress Heights – Union Station Routes

Road closures for the Barracks Row July 4^th Parade will impact both DC Circulator bus routes traveling on 8^th Street SE on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. To accommodate the event, the route will detour temporarily to 11^th Street SE starting at 9:00 am until 12:30 pm or when traffic return to normal. Instead, buses on both routes will serve temporary Metro bus stops along 11^th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue & M Street SE.

The following bus stops below will not be served during the parade.

Pennsylvania & 8^th SE (EMLP)
8^th St & E St. SE (EMLP & CHUS)
8^thSt & G St. SE (EMLP & CHUS)
8^th St & L St. SE (EMLP & CHUS)

Dupont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn Route

Riders using the Dupont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn route on the evening of July 4, 2023, should know that the Key Bridge may be closed due to heavy pedestrian traffic during the fireworks display; during the closure, there will be no bus service to Georgetown or Rosslyn, VA. After servicing the M St & 28^th St NW bus stop, the DC Circulator service will detour, making a left on 28^th St. NW and then a left onto Pennsylvania Ave. NW, returning service to Dupont Circle.

National Mall – Service Suspended

Due to the various road closures on the National Mall for July 4^th, 2023, service on the National Mall will be suspended all day. Regular service will resume at all bus stops on July 5, 2023.

DC Circulator will Modify Service on the National Mall Route on Sunday.

May 29, 2023

The parade route will affect the DC Circulator National Mall route street closures will begin at or around 12:00 pm, and the parade is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm. Therefore, the following service changes below will remain in effect until traffic returns to normal.

National Mall Detour Route:

Buses will detour after serving bus stop # 8 at the MLK Memorial. The buses will turn right onto Independence Avenue SW. The buses will make a left turn at 15^th St. NW and then a right turn onto Jefferson Drive continuing the regular route.

Stop 9 / Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
Stop 10 / Constitution Ave NW & 21 St NW
Stop 11 / Constitution Ave NW & 18 St NW
Stop 12 / 15^th St & Madison Drive NW

DC Circulator to Modify Service for the 2023 Lawyers Have Heart 10k,5k & Fun Walk on May 20, 2023.

The Lawyers Have Heart 10k, 5k & Fun Walk will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. To accommodate the event, the National Mall route will start service with a detour in effect and will continue until 12:00 pm or until traffic returns to normal.

The Museum Loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial:

Stop: # 5 / 15^th SW / Jefferson Dr.
Stop: # 6 / 15^th SW near Maine Ave.
Stop: # 7 / E. Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave.
Stop: # 8 / Lincoln Memorial Circle SW

Service Alert: Service Changes for the Capital Hill Classic Races

DC Circulator will Modify Service on the Congress Heights- Union Station Route

Sunday, May 21, 2023

The racecourse will affect the DC Circulator service on the Congress Heights – Union Station route from opening until 11:00 am. Therefore, the following service changes will begin Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the start of service.

Congress Heights Route: Detour – Service will detour from 7:00 am to 11:00 am or until traffic returns to normal.

Buses will not travel to Union Station and will not service the following stops (bus stops north of Pennsylvania Ave)

Mass Ave & Columbus Circle
8^th Street & East Capitol St

Buses will end service at the Potomac Metro Station. The last bus stop on 8^th Street will be 8^th & E Street SE before the bus detours to Pennsylvania Ave (Potomac Metro Station) to travel back to Congress Heights:

Detour Route:

Buses will turn right on Pennsylvania Ave Eastbound
Buses will turn left on Pennsylvania Ave Westbound
Then the buses will turn left on 8^th St SE and begin regular service to Congress Heights

May 10 – 13, 2023

DC Circulator service will be modified on the National Mall Route starting May 10 – May 13, 2023, for the National Mall Route for the Vietnam War Commemoration Welcome Home Festivities.

DC Circulator Service will detour after servicing bus stop # 5 at 15^th Street & Jefferson Drive SW. Vietnam War Commemoration Map_Updated_0427_1521
The bus service will detour to Independence Ave SW, going westbound and service a temporary bus stop at West Basin Drive & Independence Ave SW.

The following bus stops below will not be served:

Stop # 8 / West Basin Drive near MLK Memorial

Due to critical road closures affecting the National Mall route, the DC Circulator will delay the start of service on the National Mall Route on Sunday, April 2, 2023, due to the 2023 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler.

Once race activities have ended at 12:00 p.m., or as road closures allow, regular service will resume at all DC Circulator bus stops.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 5k run will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. The DC Circulator bus service will begin with a detour at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 11:00 a.m., or when traffic returns to normal. Bus service will detour to Madison Drive NW, starting service west of stop # 2 at Madison Drive and 4^th Street NW.

The following DC Circulator bus stops will not be served during the service detour:
