The District Department of Transportation invites DC middle school classes in grades four, five and six to enter the Inspiration Blossoms Here, Art & Letters Contest for the 2019 National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Classes will work together to write and submit an open letter addressed to potential visitors to The District. Letters should inspire kids from other parts of the world to visit DC and explore the arts, culture and history that exists here. Teachers are asked to guide their classes in demonstrating the students’ persuasive writing skills and knowledge about the DC area.
To accompany the letter, participating groups will submit one (1) class created artwork to be displayed inside the DC Circulator 4th annual Blossom Bus. Participating classes will receive ONE 58”x11.25” art panel on which they can draw, color and transform into their very own masterpiece. Only one panel will be provided for each participating class, so students are encouraged to plan their project carefully before beginning work on the panel.
Pizza Party Prize
Submissions will be reviewed and one entry will be selected that best illustrates how Washington, DC is a memorable and inspiring destination for visitors. The selected winning class will receive a visit from the DC Circulator Blossom Bus and a sponsored pizza party accompanied by fun giveaways. The winning letter will also be featured aboard all DC Circulator bus screens. The winning party will be scheduled for one day during the week of April 22-26.
