March Celebrations: Women’s History Month and Transit Employee Appreciation Day

March is a month of celebration and appreciation, honoring both Women’s History Month and Transit Employee Appreciation Day. During this time, we recognize the incredible contributions and achievements of women in transit, such as Helen Mary Schultz, founder of the first woman-owned bus line; Arcola Philpott, the first Black person and woman to operate a streetcar; and Elizabeth Dole, the first woman to serve as the Secretary of Transportation.

Transit Employee Appreciation Day, observed on March 18, provided a special opportunity to express our gratitude to the dedicated DC Circulator staff who keep our transit system running each day. Recently, we had the pleasure of spending a day with Operator Jackson, affectionally known as “Operator Jack,” who has driven with us for nine years. Her dedication and hard work represent the commitment of all our employees, and we are so thankful for all they do.

Check out our video with Operator Jackson below!
