DC Circulator to Modify Service for the State of the Union Address on Tuesday, January 7, 2023

The State of the Union Address will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. To accommodate the event, the following service changes will be effective starting as early as  5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2023.

The road closures around the U.S. Capitol will impact the E St & Columbus Circle NE bus service.

The DC Circulator service for the National Mall route will detour to 3rd St SW.

The following stops will not be served:

  • E St & Columbus Circle NE

 

 

Regular service on the National Mall route will resume on Wednesday, January 8, 2023.

DC Circulator to Detour National Mall Route Service for the March for Life on Friday, January 20, 2023.

The March for Life will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route due to closures on Constitution Avenue, Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive. Therefore, the National Mall route will detour service on Friday, January 20, 2023, starting as early as 7:00 am to accommodate this event, and buses will detour around the Tidal Basin Loop from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm or when traffic returns to normal.

The following DC Circulator bus stops will not be served:

  • E St Columbus Circle & E St NW
  • Madison Drive & 4th St NW
  • Madison Drive & 7th St NW
  • Madison Drive & 12th St SW
  • Jefferson Drive & 7th St SW
  • Jefferson Drive & 12th St SW
  • 3rd & Jefferson Drive SW

Once march activities have finished at 4:00 p.m., or as road closures allow, regular service will resume at all DC Circulator-established bus stops.

DC Circulator will Modify Service on Congress Heights to Union Station Route this Monday, January 16, 2023, for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade

 

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade will impact critical sections of the Congress Heights-Union Station Route. The parade is scheduled along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Buses will not travel along Martin Luther King Jr Ave. and will not service the following stops:

  • Martin Luther King Jr., Ave. SE, and Good Hope Rd SE (Northbound or Southbound)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE, and W St SE (Northbound or Southbound)
  • Sheridan and Bowen Road SE  (Northbound or Southbound)
  • Stanton Road, and Washington View Apts (Northbound or Southbound)
  • Stanton Road and Bryan Place SE
  • Stanton Road and Douglass Road SE
  • Stanton and Elvans Road  SE (Northbound or Southbound)

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade begins from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and buses may begin the detour service as early as 6:00 am at the start of service.

Detour Route:

Buses traveling from Union Station to Congress Heights:

After servicing the 11th St, SE, and O St, SE bus stop, the buses will continue the 11th St Bridge, making a right turn at I-295 South. Then the buses will utilize exit #4 to Suitland PKWY. Make a left onto Firth Sterling Dr. Make a right onto Howard Rd. Make a right turn into the Anacostia Metro Station.  After servicing Anacostia Station, the buses will make a right onto Firth Sterling Dr. Make a left onto Suitland PKWY. Make a right onto Stanton Rd. The buses will then continue regular service to the Congress Heights Metro Station.

Buses traveling from Congress Heights to Union Station:

The buses departing Anacostia Metro Station will exit the station making a left turn on Howard Rd. The buses will turn left at First Sterling Dr. Make a right onto Suitland PKWK. Make a right onto the ramp to

Service Alert: Georgetown – Union Station Route for The African Leaders Summit

dc ciDC Circulator to detour Georgetown –  Union Station Route for the African Leaders Summit from December 12th  – 15th, 2022.

The African Leaders Summit will lead to road closures affecting the Georgetown – Union Station route. Critical segments of the route will be affected to accommodate the summit. Below please find the details for each detour. During the detours, buses will not be picking up passengers but only allowing for riders to offboard the bus at designated WMATA stops along the detour route.

Detour route from Union Station – Georgetown traveling west-bound:

DC Circulator buses will turn right at Massachuttes Avenue & 2nd  Street NW unto 2nd Street NW.

The bus will continue traveling on 2nd Street till it reaches  H Street NW, then turn left onto H Street NW. The bus will then travel on H Street till 4th Street, NW.

The bus will then turn left unto 4th Street, NW, across Massachusetts Avenue, NW, and veer right immediately back to H Street, NW.

From there, the bus service will continue to H Street NW until it reaches 11th Street NW and then turn right onto 11th Street NW to connect to K Street NW,  continuing regular westbound service to Georgetown.

Detour route from Georgetown – Union Station traveling east-bound:

DC Circulator buses will turn right on 11th Street NW, continuing to H Street, NW. The bus service will turn left onto H Street NW, continuing on H Street NW until it veers right to Massachuttes Avenue NW, and regular eastbound service to Union Station.

The following DC Circulator bus stops will not be served:

  • Massachusetts Avenue & 5th Street NW e/b & w/b
  • Massachusetts Avenue & 7th Street N e/b & w/b
  • New York Avenue & 9th Street NW e/b & w/b
  • K Street & 11th Street NW e/b only

 

Regular service will resume at all DC Circulator bus stops on Friday, December 16, 2022.

DC Circulator to Modify Service for the 100th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Wednesday, November 30, 2022

The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will lead to road closures impacting service on the National Mall route. The following service changes will be effective on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The National Mall route will begin detour service at approximately 1:00 pm on November 30, 2022, with buses running the Museum Loop. This loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial:

Stops Impacted:

  • 15th SW / Jefferson Dr.
  • 15th SW near Maine Ave.
  • Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave.
  • West Basin Dr. SW
  • Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
  • Constitution Ave. NW / 21st
  • Constitution Ave. NW / 18th
  • 15th NW / Madison Dr.

 

The National Mall route will operate on detour for the remainder of the day starting at 1:00 pm. Full route operations will be in service on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Service Alert: Service Changes for National Mall, Dupont – Rosslyn, and Georgetown – Union Station on October 30, 2022, for the Marine Corps Marathon

 

DC Circulator will modify service on Sunday, October 30, 2022, on the following routes to accommodate the Marine Corps Marathon. The racecourse impacts critical sections of the National Mall, Dupont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn, and the Georgetown – Union Station routes.

Due to street closures during the marathon, the following service changes will be in effect at the start of service on Sunday, October 30, 2022.

National Mall Route: Delayed Start of Service. Service reopens at 2:00 pm or when traffic returns to normal.

Dupont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn: Delayed Start of Service – Service reopens at 2:00 pm or when traffic returns to normal.

Georgetown-Union Station: Service detour will remain in effect until 2:00 pm or until traffic returns to normal.

All westbound buses headed toward Georgetown will run regular service until the Pennsylvania Ave & 22nd St. NW bus stop. The buses will continue traveling around Washington Circle and back eastbound toward Union Station.

Buses will not travel into Georgetown and will not service the following DC Circulator bus stops below:

  • Pennsylvania Ave 24th St NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Pennsylvania Ave 26th St NW (E/B)
  • Pennsylvania Ave 28th St NW (E/B)
  • M St Thomas Jefferson St NW (E/B)
  • M St Wisconsin Ave NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Wisconsin Ave./O St. NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Wisconsin Ave./Q St NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Wisconsin Ave./R St NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Wisconsin Ave./34th St NW (E/B & W/B)
  • Wisconsin Ave./35th St NW (E/B)

DC Circulator will modify the National Mall Route service on Sunday, October 9, 2022, for the Army Ten Miler. The Army Ten Miler will impact the DC Circulator National Mall service from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., and streets will remain closed until traffic returns to normal. The National Mall route will operate the Museum Loop, serving the museums along the National Mall but will not service the DC Circulator bus stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial.

Bus stops that will not be served:

  • 15th SW & Jefferson Dr.
  • 15th SW near Maine Ave.
  • Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave.
  • Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
  • Constitution Ave. NW & 21st

 

Service for the full route is expected to resume as soon as road closures end on October 9, 2022.

The DC Half  Marathon will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. To accommodate this event, the following service changes will be in effect on Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm or when traffic returns to normal.

The National Mall route will be operating the Museum Loop. This loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial listed below:

  • 15th SW / Jefferson Drive
  • 15th SW near Maine Ave
  • Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave
  • Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
  • Constitution Ave. NW / 21st Street
  • Constitution Ave. NW / 18th Street
  • 15th NW / Madison Drive

Once the marathon has concluded and the streets reopen, the National Mall route will resume regular service.

The DC Bike Ride will lead to road closures affecting critical areas of the following routes the National Mall, Georgetown – Union Station, and Dupont Circle – Rosslyn. To accommodate the event, see the following service impacts that will go into effect at the start of service at 7:00 am until 2:00 pm Saturday, September 10, 2022.

 

The DC Circulator service on the Dupont Circle– Rosslyn and the National Mall route will be suspended from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm or until the streets reopen for regular traffic.

 

The Union Station – Georgetown route will begin service with the buses detouring; the buses will continue around Washington Circle NW to Pennsylvania Ave NW and then continue service on M St NW to Wisconsin Ave NW. The following bus stops below will not be served.

  • K St & 24th NW
  • Lower K St. & 30th NW
  • Lower K St. & Wisconsin Ave NW
  • Wisconsin Ave & M St NW

Once the activities conclude and the streets reopen, all routes will resume regular service.
