Service Alert: Service Changes for Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and 5k

DC Circulator to Modify Service on Multiple Routes this Saturday for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and 5k.

Saturday, March 16, 2024

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon course will run on critical parts of the National Mall route, Georgetown-Union Station route, and Woodley Park-Adams Morgan route.

The marathon course will affect DC Circulator routes from opening until noon. Therefore, the following service changes will begin on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the start of service:

National Mall Route: Detour – Service will detour from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Independence Ave SW.

The following bus stops below will not be served.

  • Stop # 9 Lincoln Memorial Circle SW
  • Stop # 10 Constitution Avenue / 21 St NW
  • Stop # 11 Constitution Avenue / 18th St NW
  • Stop # 12 15th Street / Madison Drive SW

Georgetown-Union Station: Detour Service will detour from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm or once streets reopen to traffic after the conclusion of the marathon. Buses will travel eastbound or westbound into the Union Station garage, and service will detour at Massachusetts Avenue & 5th Street NW.

The following bus stops below will not be served.

  • Union Station Garage
  • North Capitol Street /H Street NE
  • North Capitol Street / Massachusetts Avenue NE (EB & WB)
  • Massachusetts Avenue NE / First Street NE
  • Massachusetts Avenue NW / New Jersey Avenue NW (EB & WB)
  • Massachusetts Avenue NW/ 5th Street NW (EB)

.Woodley Park-Adams Morgan: Detour – Service will detour from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or once streets reopen to traffic after the conclusion of the marathon.

Buses will not travel into Adams Morgan and will not service the following stops below (all stops north of Florida Ave):

  • Connecticut Ave NW / 24th St.
  • Adams Mill Rd. NW / Columbia Rd.
  • Columbia Rd. NW / Ontario Rd. NW
  • Mt. Pleasant St NW / Irving St.
  • Irving St NW / 14th St.
  • Columbia Rd. NW / 14th St.
  • Columbia Rd. NW / between 15th & 16th St.
  • Columbia Rd. NW / Ontario Rd.
  • Adams Mill Rd. NW / Columbia Rd.
  • Connecticut Ave. NW / 24th St.

Once race activities have concluded and streets reopen around noon, the DC Circulator will begin regular service to all Circulator bus stops. Follow @dccirculator on Twitter for updates.

DC Circulator to Detour National Mall Route Service for the Cherry Blossom Festivities starting Monday, March 18, 2024

The Cherry Blossom Festivities will lead to road closures affecting the National Mall route. After serving bus stop five (# 5), a temporary bus stop on Independence Avenue SW at the far side of Independence Avenue SW and 17th Street SW will serve the DC Circulator customers during the detour.

The following bus stops will not be served during the service detour:

  • 6: 15th NW near Jefferson Avenue SW
  • 7: East Basin Drive SW
  • 8: West Basin Drive near Independence Avenue SW

Due to the Union Station Deck Project, the H St entrance to the Union Station garage will be closed starting February 16, 2024, until further notice.  DC Circulator bus service will be rerouted to enter the Union Station garage using the far east side ramp on Union Station Drive NE near Massachusetts Ave NE & Columbus Circle NE.

The following bus stops will not be served during the service detour:

  • North Capital and H St NE

DC Circulator to Detour National Mall Route Service for the March for Life on Friday, January 19, 2024

 

The March for Life will lead to significant road closures affecting the National Mall route due to Constitution Avenue, Madison Drive, and Jefferson Drive closures. Therefore, the National Mall route will detour service on Friday, January 19, 2024, starting as early as 7:00 am to accommodate this event, and buses will detour service around the Tidal Basin Loop from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm or when traffic returns to normal.

The following DC Circulator bus stops will not be served:

  • E St Columbus Circle & E St NW
  • Madison Drive & 4th St NW
  • Madison Drive & 7th St NW
  • Madison Drive & 12th St SW
  • Jefferson Drive & 7th St SW
  • Jefferson Drive & 12th St SW
  • 3rd & Jefferson Drive SW

 

Once March activities have finished at 4:00 pm, or as road closures allow, regular service will resume at all DC Circulator-established bus stops on this route.

DC Circulator will Modify Service on the Congress Heights to Union Station Route on Monday,

January 15, 2024, for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade

 

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade will impact critical sections of the Congress Heights-Union Station Route. The parade is scheduled along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Buses will not travel along Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and will not service the following stops:

  • Martin Luther King Jr., Ave. SE and Marion Berry Ave SE (Northbound or Southbound)
  • Martin Luther King Jr., Ave., SE and W St. SE (Northbound or Southbound)

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade begins from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m., and buses may begin the detour service as early as 6:00 a.m. at the start of service.

Detour Route:

Buses traveling from Union Station to Congress Heights:

After servicing the 11th St, SE, and O St, SE bus stop, the buses will continue the 11th St Bridge, turning right at I-295 South. Then, the buses will utilize exit # 4 to Suitland Pkwy. Turn left onto Firth Sterling Ave SE, right onto Howard Rd SE, and a right into the Anacostia Metro Station. The buses will continue regular service to the Congress Heights Metro Station.

Buses traveling from Congress Heights to Union Station:

The buses departing Anacostia Metro Station will exit the station and turn left on Howard Rd. Then left onto Firth Sterling Ave SE, right onto Suitland Pkwy, and an immediate right onto I-295 North. The buses will utilize exit # 4 to the 11th Street Bridge, making a left onto the 11th Street Bridge and continuing regular service to Union Station.

 

Once the activities have concluded and streets reopened, service will resume at all re-established DC Circulator bus stops on this route. Follow @dccirculator on Twitter for updates.

due to the closing of the Rosslyn Metro Station on January 12th – 15th, 2024

 

Due to the closing of the Rosslyn Metro Station, the DC Circulator will modify services from January 12th  through 15th, 2024.

 

The DC Circulator bus stop in front of the Rosslyn Metro Station located at Bus Bay B will be temporarily relocated to 19th and North Moore Street starting January 12, 2024, through January 15, 2024.

DC Circulator service at Bus Bay B will resume on January 16, 2024, until further notice.

DC Circulator to Modify Service for the Jingle All The Way on Sunday, December 10, 2023

The Jingle All The Way 5k & 15k will lead to road closures impacting the National Mall route service. Therefore, the following service changes below will be effective at the start of service on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The National Mall route will begin service with a detour with buses running the Museum Loop. This loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial:

  • 15th SW near Maine Ave.
  • Basin Dr. SW near Independence Ave.

DC Circulator to Modify Service for the 101st Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Thursday, November 30, 2023

The 101st National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will close critical segments of the service route, impacting service on the National Mall route. The following service changes will be effective on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The National Mall route will begin detour service at approximately 1:00 pm on November 30, 2023, with buses running the Museum Loop. This loop serves the museums along the National Mall but will not serve the following stops along the Tidal Basin or near the Lincoln Memorial:

Service Alert: DC Circulator to Run Special Shuttle to Zoolights at the Smithsonian National Zoo

DC Circulator will provide shuttle service from the Woodley Park Metro Station to the Smithsonian National Zoo for Zoolights, starting this Friday, November 24 for one dollar. Shuttle service will be provided every 15 minutes from 4:45pm-9pm when Zoolights is in operation with the exception of Sundays which will run from 4:45pm-8pm. Please note, DC Circulator’s Zoolights shuttle will not participate in the following member nights: November 30, December 7, and December 14.

Passengers who board at the Woodley Park Metro DC Circulator stop will be dropped off at the WMATA L2 bus stop in front of the Zoo’s main entrance on Connecticut Ave NW. All passengers will need to depart the bus at this stop in order to show their Zoolights tickets before entering the zoo.  

Passengers returning to the Woodley Park Metro can board either 1)  at the Bus Lot next to Panda Plaza inside the zoo campus or 2) at the southbound WMATA L2  bus stop across from the zoo entrance on Conn. Ave. NW.  

Look out for the “Zoolights shuttle service” signs at the WMATA bus stops.

 The 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger 5k will impact the National Mall route service. Therefore, the National Mall route will start service in detour with the buses starting service at bus stop (#2) 4th and Madison Drive SW.

Omitting bus service at bus stop (#1) E Street and Columbus Circle NE, and bus stop (#15) 3rd Street between Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive SW.

Stops impacted:

  • E Street and Columbus Circle
  • 3rd Street between Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive Ave.

The National Mall route will resume regular service after 1:00 p.m. or when the traffic returns to normal.
