Circulator No Longer Accepting Paper Transfers:
Beginning January 4, 2009, the DC Circulator will not issue or accept paper transfers. To get the transfer discount or to transfer free from bus to bus, you must use a SmartTrip card. As part of the switch to SmarTrip-only transferring, we will also extend the transfer time from two to three hours. Circulator riders transferring to Metrorail will begin to receive a discount on their rail fares if they pay with SmarTrip® beginning Jan.4, 2009, providing yet another good reason for riders to make the switch
from cash fares to SmarTrip®. The bus-to-rail transfer will reduce Metrorail fares by 50 cents for riders using a SmarTrip® card. It will take effect on the same date that paper transfers are eliminated.
With the new two-way transfer discount, Metrorail riders transferring to Circulator will pay 50 cents to board (a 50 cent discount off the regular fare of $1), and Circulator riders transferring to Metrorail will get 50 cents off of their Metrorail fare.

Circulator No Longer Accepting MARC and VRE Passes:
As part of the Circulator's new transfer policy beginning January 4, 2009, the Circulator will not accept MARC and VRE passes as transfers.

OTHER NEWS:
The two Circulator stops located in front of Union Station have been eliminated and replaced by two new stops.
The first stop is located in the parking garage behind Union Station. This stop is accessible by following signs to the mezzanine level parking garage entrance. The stop is located at the top of the first escalator and beyond the Greyline ticket booth. This location allows for a covered transfer from VRE, MARC, Amtrak, and Metrorail.
The second stop is located at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave. and North Capitol St., NW on the northwest corner.
As of December 7, the Circulator has issued service changes to streamline services on the Georgetown - Union Station Route and the Convention Center - SW Waterfront Route.
Georgetown - Union Station Route the following changes have been made:
- Removal of 25th and Pennsylvania Avenue Westbound stop
- Removal of P and Wisconsin Avenue Westbound stop
- Removal of P and Wisconsin Avenue Eastbound stop
- Removal of R and Wisconsin Avenue Westbound stop
- Removal of R and Wisconsin Avenue Eastbound stop
- Creation of a stop on 21st and K Westbound (located on 21st street)
Convention Center - SW Waterfront Route the following changes have been made:
- Creation of a stop on N and 7th street
The Smithsonian/National Gallery of Art Loop runs Saturday and Sunday 10am - 6pm.
